Pharmacy Overview

Every pharmacy connected to the Surescripts electronic prescribing network can be searched for and found. You can send an electronic prescription to any pharmacy you find.  With that said, not all pharmacies are able to receive all types of electronic prescription orders.  For example, not all pharmacies can receive controlled prescriptions.  Furthermore, not all pharmacies can receive Compound medication orders.

When searching for a medication, the service levels (the types of prescription messages that a pharmacy can send and receive) will be shown.  The possible pharmacy service levels are below.  If the service is present, the pharmacy can receive that type of prescription or has that service level.

  • New (non-controlled prescriptions)
  • Refills
  • Controlled Substance
  • Cancel
  • Change
  • Long Term Care
  • Rx Fill Indicator Change
  • 24-Hour
  • Specialty
  • Fax accepted

In-House Pharmacy Routing

The steps below detail how send prescriptions to an IN-HOUSE PHARMACY for the practice. The In-House Pharmacy address is the same as the practice address, so there is no additional credentials or demographic setup for In-House routing of prescriptions.   When a prescription is created, and after the setup has been enabled, all prescribers will be able to send to the In-House Pharmacy in the normal prescribing workflow.

Setup

The first is the setting to tell ScriptSure the practice will be using In-House Pharmacy routing.   In the Settings>Practice Setting>Advanced Practice Setting you will see an option for Practice Utilizes an In-House Pharmacy.

After that setting is turned, if there is a user that is functioning as a pharmacist filling the prescriptions, the user must have the following setting turned on so they can mark off medications as filled.  The user would need to go to Settings>User Setting>Miscellaneous.

Routing to In-House Location

1. Select a patient.

2. Select a prescription (dose, # and SIG).

3. At the prescription preview window, modify the prescription as needed.

4. When ready to route the prescription, click the pharmacy button at the bottom of the screen. Note: The pharmacy area does not need to be completed.

5. After routing the prescription to In-House Pharmacy, the patient chart will show a blue highlighted row and have a button at the end of the row (and a delete button). Note: The delete button can only be utilized to permanently remove an order prior to filling.

6. An approved user can then click login and click button which will indicate to ScriptSure that the medication was filled and delivered to the patient. After clicking Fill the medication will appear as an active prescription on the patient chart.
