Create Bamboo Health access to PMP / PDMP Medication History

Modified on Tue, 16 Apr at 11:55 PM

Providers must complete the setup of their own Bamboo Health account in order to access the Bamboo data which is comprised of PMP Gateway information.  More specifically, the PMP Gateway gives providers access to 12-months of CONTROLLED medication history for their patients across state lines.

All controlled medications prescribed for a patient are logged on a report by Bamboo health. Bamboo Health gets this information from the individual state Prescription Monitoring Programs (PMP) or Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs (PDMP) in each state that PARTICIPATES with Bamboo Health.

Not all states participate with Bamboo Health.  Approximately 8 states do not share data to Bamboo Health currently which means providers in those states CANNOT sign-up for Bamboo Health medication history data feed from the PMP Gateway.  Notable states that do not participate with Bamboo are: New York, Nebraska, Vermont, Wisconsin, Utah.

Most states pay for BAMBOO Health access for the provider's, other states require the provider to pay a fee. The states below in the table require the PROVIDER to pay for their access:

Fees range from $30/year to $300/year depending on state and the type of report the provider wants. These fees are set by the state and charged by Bamboo during setup – these are not ScriptSure fees; ScriptSure derives no revenue for the user to access Bamboo.

  1. 1.   Bamboo Health (previously called APPRISS Health)

Providers with NPI numbers can sign-up for Bamboo.  GROUP PRACTICES and HOSPITALS can choose to sign-up once with ONE NPI and then all providers at the practice can access the data.  Alternatively, a solo-provider can sign-up and access the data.  Nurses and supporting users without NPI numbers are NOT eligible to sign-up for Bamboo Health accounts.

A provider must sign-up for their own account with Bamboo after which time they are issued a username and password by Bamboo Health.  This username and password takes 5-7 business days for Bamboo to create.  After created they are emailed to DAW and to the provider email.

After the credentials (username and password issued by Bamboo Health) are received, DAW staff or the provider must add the Bamboo credentials to the provider's profile in the platform.  There are two additional steps for providers.

  1. 1. Providers must make sure their user type is set to Nurse Practitioner or Physician.

  1. 2. On the practice profile page there must be a facility NPI or provider NPI entered in the facility NPI field on the practice setup page (practice profile page).

NOTE:  If 1 and 2 are not done, the provider CANNOT access the Bamboo Health data even if they have their issued Bamboo Health credentials added to their profile.

  1. Steps for providers to Create a Bamboo Health Account:

1. Check the Bamboo Health spreadsheet to ensure the provider states has Bamboo Health connectivity. If so, go to step 2.  If not, tell provider their state does not allow for PMP Gateway access via Bamboo Health.

3. In the top right click Create an Account.

4. Follow the steps presented

5. After you create the account it takes 5-7 days for BAMBOO Health to issue credentials (username and password) that they send to our company.  We then add those to your profile and thereafter you can access the PMP  Gateway and view PMP data for patients.

6. Be sure that there is a facility NPI on the practice (Providers personal NPI can be used here)

7. Be sure the provider user type is set to Nurse Practitioner or Physician in the user profile.

After the above is setup, users can select any patient and then they will see the PMP Gateway button to click in the patient’s chart.  When clicked a PDF view will open of the PMP data.
