How to Create an Order Set



ScriptSure Cloud ERX v2.0 and later includes the ability create Order Sets to the drug database and then select an order set to prescribe for any patient.   Simply put an order set is multiple medications you can easily select to prescribe together; these can be any medications you want to be a part of the order set.  When the order set is selected for use, any medications a part of that order set can be sent for a patient.  A use case for this is to easily prescribe mediations commonly prescribed together.  

The steps below allow you to select medications, select a strength, quantity and directions for the medication as a template to use for any patient you want.  You can then add a second medication, a third and so on.  When the Order Set is actually selected to use for a patient, you will have the option to modify the individual prescriptions that make-up the order set.

The steps below show you how to Setup an Order Set for the users of the application. Any user with permission can setup a compound medication.  Permissions are granted to admins of the application.

STEPS:

1. Login to ScriptSure: www.scriptsure.com

2. Search for and select any patient – you will not be prescribing for this patient, but a patient must be selected to get to the Setup Order Set screen.

5. When the Order Set window Opens, click  in the top right of the window.

IMPORTANT NOTE:  IF YOU DO NOT SEE THE SETUP BUTTON, YOU DO NOT HAVE PERMISSIONS TO SETUP AN ORDER SET.  YOU CAN SELECT AN EXISTING ORDER SET TO PRESCRIBE FOR A PATIENT, BUT YOU CANNOT CREATE A NEW ONE.

7. Enter an On-Screen Title and an On-Screen Comment for the Order Set and Click . (The Title will be the name of the order set when selecting it on-screen; this name is only visible in ScriptSure and does not send to the pharmacy! The medications you select in the next steps will be seen by the pharmacist.   The Comment is also only visible in ScriptSure and will indicate to users what it the medication is used for; this does not send to the pharmacy.)

8. The Order Set Window will open and show the named Order Set will appear on the left. Select the Order Set on the left and on the right side of the screen you see under the General Tab the name and comment you just entered.  (If you need to update these elements, you can click the EDIT button under the General Section).  The next step is to click ADD MEDICATION under Orders.

9. The Drug Search Screen will open and you can find and then select the first medication you want to be a part of the Order Set.

10. Search for the medication (in the example below we are first adding Lorazepam 1mg Tablets, 90 tablets, Take 1 tablet by mouth every eight hours:

11. The Create Order will open and you can further configure the medication as you want.   You can modify the quantity, directions, add refills, set a pharmacy comment, etc. and the click .

12. You will be put back to the drug search window where you can add another find any add another medication to the Order Set. In this example, I am adding a second medication of Morphine.  I now have 2 medications that make-up the Order Set.  Keep in mind you can add as many medications as you want and you can add controlled or non-controlled medications, brand or generic named medications to any Order set.

The order set of 2 medications now looks like this:

13. Click Close when finished and you can now use that Order Set. (NOTE: You can also add a set diagnosis for the Order set and you can add educational material that will print out when the Order Set is selected.




How to Use an Order Set

 

1. Login to ScriptSure: www.scriptsure.com

2. Search for and select any patient – you will not be prescribing for this patient, but a patient must be selected to get to the Setup Order Set screen.

3. Click

5. Then select the order set you want to use:

6. You can then view, edit and send the prescription orders:

  1. You can click the pen to edit the prescription for this particular patient.
  2. Click the trash can to delete this prescription from the order set FOR THIS PATIENT!
  3. Set the pharmacy destination
  4. Enter any desired notes or comments to communicate to the pharmacist.
  5. Send the prescriptions to the pharmacy.
