Creating a Prescription

1. Login to ScriptSure: https://app.scriptsure.com/login 

2. Search for any select a patient

3. Click “Prescribe New Drug”

4. Search for and select the medication.

      Option a. Enter the medication name in the “Search for a Drug (Brand or Generic)” field.

           OR

      Option b. Click on "PRESCRIBE NEW DRUG" and choose a favorite medication, or filter by any of the medication types that appear on the resulting page by checking the 'Drug Groups' checkbox. You can also prescribe an order set, or write a prescription for a compound/specialty drug.

5. Select Strength

    a. Select a strength from the “Formats” list.

        Note: If the needed strength is not listed, click “ADD FORMAT” for more options.

6. Create or Select Format for Directions and Quantity

a. Create a new format from scratch.

   OR

b. Select a format from list. (Note: This will pre-populate certain fields so you do not have to start from scratch. It is best to select a format that is the best match for what you need. You will still be able to edit the format in the next screen.)

7. Review and edit required and optional fields as needed.

Required Fields:  (See Prescription Preview Options for more details.)

a. Written Date: This should be the day you are writing the script. (It will default to today's date.)

b. Fill Date: The day the pharmacy should fill the order. (This will also default to today's date. If you would like the pharmacy to fill at a later date, edit the fill date as needed.) 

c. Quantity: Enter the total quantity for the script.

d. Form: Select the medication form from the dropdown. (Once you have clicked the dropdown, you can type the first letter of the form you are looking for to find it quickly. For example, typing "t" will take you to forms like "tablespoon" or "tablet".)

e. Refills: Enter the number of refills you would like to prescribe.

f. Day supply: If you are using the structured "Directions" line, instead of free form, the system should calculate the day supply automatically. However, if you use free form for the directions, you will need to calculate the day supply and enter it here.

g. Directions: Enter the directions for the prescription.

h. Pharmacy: Select the pharmacy where the script will be sent.

Optional Fields:

a. Substitution Allowed: This box will always be checked as a default. However, you can uncheck it if you want the pharmacy to dispense as written and not substitute for a generic.

b. No Expiration Date: If the patient will be on the medication ongoing, you can check this box. If you check this box, the system will always consider this medication when checking for drug interactions, etc.

c. Note To Pharmacist (Pharmacy Note): Use this field to relay additional notes to the pharmacy, such as "Please dispense with easy open lids". 

IMPORTANT NOTE: This field should NOT be used to enter insurance, diagnosis, patient demographics, or prescription instructions.  

d. Patient Insurance: This is a section where you can specify insurance information, such as coupon or hospice billing information. (For more details, click here.)

e. Diagnosis: If you would like to add a diagnosis to the script, you can select "+ ADD DIAGNOSIS".

8. Complete the script. 

• When you have finished reviewing and editing the fields on the Prescription Preview, choose an option below. 

a. Send to Pharmacy: This will send the script to the pharmacy to be filled.

b. Queue to Provider for Approval: This will pend the script to the prescriber for approval before it is sent to the pharmacy. 

Note: All controlled medications require approval from the provider. 

c. Save Only: This will NOT send the script to the pharmacy. Instead, it will only save the script to the patient's prescription list. 

d. Print: This will NOT send the script to the pharmacy. Instead, it will open as a document to be printed.
