Adding a Secondary Email Address: A secondary email address can provide an additional layer of security and accessibility for your ID.me account. It's particularly useful if you need to change your primary email address. If you initially signed up with your work email, adding a secondary email, such as a personal one, is advisable.

To add a secondary email address:

  1. Sign in to your ID.me account.
  2. Go to PROFILE.
  3. Under “Email,” click +Add Email and enter the new email address.
  4. Click Send verification. You'll receive a confirmation message at the new email address.
    • Tip: If you don’t see the email, check your spam folder. You can click Resend verification for a new confirmation email.
  5. Confirm the email address by clicking the link in the confirmation email.
  6. The new email address will now display under the “PROFILE” tab in your account.

Changing Your Primary Email Address: If you've added a secondary email address, you can designate it as the primary one. Your primary email address is crucial for resetting your password and updating your Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) method.

  1. Sign in to your ID.me account.
  2. Navigate to PROFILE.
  3. Under “Email,” locate the email you want as the primary one and click Make Primary.
    • Tip: If you've lost access to your account’s primary email address, you can still sign in with your account password.

Deleting Email Addresses: You can delete secondary email addresses that are not set as your primary one.

To delete a secondary email address:

  1. Sign in to your ID.me account.
  2. Visit PROFILE.
  3. Under “Email,” find the email you want to remove and click the trash can icon.
  4. Confirm deletion by clicking Delete.
    • Tip: For account accessibility, it's advisable to always keep at least one secondary email address associated with your account.
