Understanding User Roles: Full Admin, Basic Admin, Provider, Supporting User

User roles in ScriptSure Manage Site define the access, functionality, and responsibilities each user has within the system. Whether you're assigning new staff, managing permissions, or auditing user access, it's important to understand how each role functions.

This guide explains the differences between the four primary user roles in ScriptSure:

  • Full Admin
  • Basic Admin
  • Provider
  • Supporting User

1. Full Admin

The Full Admin role has the highest level of access and control in ScriptSure Manage Site. These users are typically IT administrators, compliance officers, or senior staff responsible for overseeing system-wide configuration.

Permissions:

  • Add, edit, and remove users (including Providers and Admins)
  • Assign user roles and ePrescribing permissions
  • Configure organization-wide settings
  • View audit logs and usage reports
  • Manage password resets, reactivation, and invitations
  • Full access to administrative tools and all user profiles

2. Basic Admin

The Basic Admin role provides administrative capabilities, but with more limited access than Full Admins. This role is ideal for office managers or department leads who need to support day-to-day user management without full system control.

Permissions:

  • Add and manage users (excluding Full Admins)
  • Resend invitations and reset user passwords
  • Assign roles such as Provider or Supporting User
  • Manage ePrescribing access for users

3. Provider

Providers are licensed prescribers—typically physicians, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, or dentists—who are authorized to electronically prescribe medications using ScriptSure.

Permissions:

  • Access ePrescribing module
  • Manage their own DEA/NPI/license information
  • View patient charts and prescription history
  • Approve or sign prescriptions
  • Cannot manage other users or system settings

4. Supporting User

Supporting Users are non-prescribers who assist Providers, such as nurses, medical assistants, office staff, or billing personnel. Their access is limited to non-clinical or supportive workflows.

Permissions:

  • Approve EPCS request for the provider
  • Assist with user tasks (e.g., entering patient data, initiating prescriptions for provider review)
  • View limited patient and prescription data (based on configuration)
  • Cannot sign or send prescriptions
  • Support staff can send prescriptions if they have permission and the provider allows it, but they can never send controlled substances without the provider's approval.
